The Real Mount Sinai
Traditionally, the biblical Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments, has been identified with Jebel Musa in the region known today as the Sinai Peninsula.
Though controversial, the 1992 discovery of the real Mount Sinai in north-western Saudi Arabia by Jim and Penny Caldwell changes a lot of assumptions. Mount Sinai is identified as Jebel Maqla, in the mountain range known as Jebel Al-Lawz. In light of this, and taking the biblical account of the Red Sea crossing seriously, it is more likely that the Red Sea crossing was across the Gulf of Aqaba, possibly at the Straits of Tiran.
